HTC One S is the second phone in the One series that was announces at the MWC, 2012. The phone is second league to the One X but it certainly has features that makes it nothing less than its higher-end sibling. It might not carry the quad-core power of the One X but the dual core does the job more than efficiently.
HTC have been providing special benefits to increase the sales of their phones like free Dropbox Cloud storage up to 25 GB if you purchase the phone in the first two years and the same goes for the One S as well. Lets see what the One S is all about.
Firstly, looking at the body of the set.It is something to lookout for. It is made out of metal. When wee say metal, don't think its just the regular Aluminium casing, instead, a specially treated metal has been used. To be precise, it is made up of Plasma baked Aluminium which is said to be around 5-6 times stronger than the regular metal. Also, it has been treated under Gradient Anodisation to provide the texture at the back.
Now, coming to the screen, it enjoys a 4.3" super AMOLED qHD screen. The pixel density of 256 ppi provides great details and there is no pixelation in the screen. The screen is smaller than that of the One X which had 4.7" screen (which is the same as that of the Galaxy Note) but is brilliant in its own terms. Also, it is more close to a mobile phone (than the One X which feels more of a hybrid of a phone and a tablet) and the experience is much more believable.
Talking about the hardware, it is powered with a 1,5 GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon chip. It is not the same as the quad core of the One X but it does the job equally efficiently. Also, it houses 1 GB RAM that makes processing snappy and there aren't any lags or crashes. The camera of the phone is the same as the One in the the One X. The 8 MP snapper at the back is also capable of shooting HD videos up to 1080p. The imagechip technology has also been used here. It is also capable of taking pics while shooting videos. It has been provided with a 1.3 MP camera at the front for video calling. It is also capable of shooting videos up to 720p.
In terms of software, it runs the latest version of Android, the Ice Cream Sandwich. It is nice to have the device launched pre-loaded with ICS instead of waiting for an update. It runs the latest version of Sense as well, the HTC Sense 4.0. The combination of ICS and Sense 4 is magnificent and leads to an attractive UI with decent design having less text and animations.
Looking at the big picture, the phone is second league to the One X but in some fields like the design and construction, it surpasses its elder sibling. Body of One S is much more solid and worked upon than the X's. The complete One series will be available in the market by Q2, 2012. Let's see if the Sidekick is able to live up to the expectations of the masses.
