Asus have released their latest addition to their tablet list with the new Asus Transformer Prime. The Tablet is the successor to Asus' last year release 'Transformer'. The new tablet is certainly an upgrade from the last version with the new Nvidia Tegra 3 processor introduced in this tablet. The tablet industry has been wanting to see a tablet that is capable of looking the i-Pad 2 right in the face since its release. Finally, there seems to be a tablet worthy of comparison to the i-Pad 2. Let's see what's so special that makes Transformer Prime a high class tablet device.
Firstly, talking about the design, Asus have really come out all guns blazing in terms of design with the Transformer Prime. The Prime has been given a design worth dying for. The design is simply brilliant. The Aluminium provides a glossy finish to the device. Also, the edges remind us of the i-Pad 2. The device is available in two colors-'Amethyst gray' and 'Champagne Gold'. Prime weighs just 1.32 pounds which is even lighter than the i-Pad 2. Also, its thinner than i-pad 2.
Moving on to the screen, the 10.1 inch front is pretty good with the Super IPS+ LCD display with the WXGA resolution of 1280*800 pixels. The screen can be quite bright and text can be read clearly even in bright sunlight. The screen is one of the best in the market but it falls behind in terms of multimedia experience when compared to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 or i-Pad 2.
In terms of hardware, this device really does the job. It is the first tablet to carry the new Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor. It really is the highlight in terms of its specifications. Also, the device is equipped with a 1 GB RAM which, along with the quad-core chip, makes this device a rather smooth and snappy one. The Prime has internal memory of 32/64 GB and further 32 GB can be added via the micro SD card slot.
The Prime has been running Android v3.2(Honeycomb) although it is upgradeable to the the latest version, the ICS. The OS runs nicely and the ASUS Waveshare UI provides a unique look to the Transformer Prime. On the new quad-core chip, Honeycomb runs pretty smoothly without any lags or delays. With the ICS update, the device gets the added 'X-Factor' making it much more awesome.
The camera is really where it is a step ahead of the i-Pad 2. The tablet contains an 8 MP rear camera. The camera in the Prime is by far the best we've seen in any tablet. The image quality is pretty good and the colors are well-defined and vibrant. The camera interface is also quite decent with a lot of options to tweak around with the images. It is also capable of recording HD videos up to 1080p. There is also a 1.2 MP front camera right above the screen for video calling.
Overall, the Transformer Prime is a great device worthy of giving tough competition to the i-Pad 2. It contains all the features to be a high-end tablet. It is even better in some aspects than the i-Pad 2 like the processor and the camera. Let's see whether the Transformer Prime can be the tablet it seems to be from the specifications and stand against the tablet king, the 'i-Pad 2'.
