SAMSUNG OMNIA W-I8350 Review, Price And Specifications

SAMSUNG OMNIA W-I8350  is Windows phone device from SAMSUNG. OMNIA W has been launched to compete with NOKIA's LUMIA sets which also employ the Mango OS. The design of the device is good but nothing specially attractive or flashy.

OMNIA is provided with a 3.7" super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 480*800 pixels, so the quality of the screen is very high and the text and images appear sharp and crisp. The main disadvantage about the OMNIA W is that it does not support higher resolution than its own(480*800) which is a real pain as the 1.4 GHz chip is capable of so much more.

The OS is also quite good. Mango runs quite nicely on the phone and there are no issues regarding performance in the phone. The phone employs a tiled format and the colors can be changed via settings. The background can be altered between black and white but we prefer black as it looks classy and also gives a boost to the battery life.

The 1.4 GHz chip provides blazing speeds to the set. Although, the rivals Android and iOS  are employing dual core chips, Mango is still running on single core. It is expected to come in dual core sometime later this year, but by then Android and iOS would have moved to quad-core processors. But instead of being a single core phone, it gives smooth performance and there are no lags except a few here and there.

Camera of the set is quite good and picture quality was very good and it is also capable of shooting VGA quality videos. The camera also consists of a front camera for video calling or taking pics.

SAMSUNG have been influenced by Apple and now feel that consumers don't need a microSD card slot, so they decided to give 8 GB of internal memory to OMNIA and remove the card slot. We consider this to be one of the major cons of the set.

One of the biggest disappointments about OMNIA W is its music playback. The phone does not support many of the formats and the tracks have to be first converted into compatible formats. Also, the Zune feature is also a headache. Like the iTunes, tracks have to be moved back and forth via ZunePC software.

Overall, the phone has its own set of pros and cons but is a relatively good handset if you are able to ignore some of its vices. The price tag is also not that high like other Windows Phone devices (the LUMIA pair), so it certainly deserves a look.
