Aakash is provided with Android v2.2(Froyo) and is running on 366 MHz ARM-11 chip. It has a 2100mAh battery. Firstly, talking about the OS, Android at such a low price tag is quite a tempting deal. But there are some limitations to the Aakash version of the Android. It does not support the Android market. All the apps have to be downloaded from external sites. But it has java support, so the apps run quite smoothly.
Aakash is running on a meager 366 MHz processor, so there are bound to be problems regarding speed in the tablet. Loading of pages in pdf documents takes an eternity. The touch screen is also resistive in nature, so there is bound to be a compromise in quality and the problem is aggravated by the slow processor. Also, the backup of the battery is quite less.
It has WiFi functionality but no SIM card support. But in such a low price, there are bound to be limitations.Overall, Aakash is no match to the I-Pad or the Galaxy tab but it was never meant to be their match either. It is launched keeping the students in focus and not profits or features. The device in no way is a high-end gadget but it serves the basic functions of a tablet for the students.
